Jason Fuchs Reveals His Lobo Film Would Have Made Deadpool Look Child-Friendly

Jason Fuchs, the Hollywood screenwriter and showrunner known for his work on Welcome to Derry, recently opened up about a never-produced DC Studios project centered on the cosmic bounty hunter Lobo. Fuchs described the planned film as one of the most daring and brutal adaptations in comic book cinema history.

Although the project was actively developed with a clear creative direction, it was ultimately scrapped during the script phase, primarily due to its excessively dark tone and the intention to release it with an R rating.

Deadpool Would Have Seemed Like a Kid’s Movie by Comparison

Explaining the film’s concept, Fuchs likened it to a surprising fusion of popular franchises coupled with a distinctive auteur style. He described it as “Guardians of the Galaxy if Quentin Tarantino directed it.”

The screenplay envisioned a psychotic, ultra-violent R-rated feature packed with dark humor, graphic gore, and outrageous elements. Fuchs emphasized that in this context, even Deadpool would come across as tame and family-friendly. He identified this extreme approach as a major factor behind DC’s decision to halt production.

Jason Momoa Was His Dream Lobo

Regarding casting, Fuchs revealed he had always imagined Jason Momoa as the perfect actor to portray Lobo. From the outset, Momoa was the only choice in his mind for the role.

He also mentioned that Michael Bay would have been the ideal director to bring the film’s chaotic energy and explosive visuals to life. Fuchs pictured the movie as a provocative, uncompromising blockbuster that matched Bay’s signature style.

A Dark Parody of the “Martha” Scene

Fuchs shared details about a standout scene from the script that satirized the infamous “Martha” moment from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In this sequence, a villain begs Lobo for mercy by mentioning his mother’s name is Martha. Lobo pauses upon hearing this, then coldly kills his adversary, questioning why sharing the same mother’s name should matter at all. This scene served as a brutal, sharp critique of one of the most controversial moments in the DC film saga.

Hopes for Lobo’s Future in the DC Universe

Despite the cancellation, Fuchs remains optimistic that Lobo may still find his way to the big screen within Warner Bros.’ revamped DC Universe (DCU). He believes the character’s vast potential could be realized in a different context and timeframe better suited to his wild nature.
