Disney begins casting for the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider.
Disney is actively casting lead actors for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Tangled.
Following its official announcement in December last year, Disney has entered a crucial casting phase for the live-action remake of the beloved animated film Tangled. This new project continues Disney’s trend of transforming classic animated hits into live-action features.
Insider reports reveal that initial auditions and “chemistry tests” with both established and emerging young talent were held in London last week.
Actresses Auditioning for Rapunzel
A number of promising actresses have tried out for the role of Rapunzel, the princess famed for her magical hair. Noteworthy contenders include Freya Skye, who recently made her mark in the Disney movie Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires (2025); Sarah Catherine Hook, recognized for her role in the acclaimed series The White Lotus; and Australian star Teagan Croft, known for her performance in Titans.
Additionally, Olivia-Mae Barrett, who appeared in the series Invasion, participated in the auditions. Reports also mention Lola Tung from The Summer I Turned Pretty as a potential candidate, although she may have missed out due to scheduling conflicts.
Actors in the Running for Flynn Rider
For the charming rogue Flynn Rider, Disney has invited several young actors skilled in both acting and singing. Among those considered are Milo Manheim, known from the Zombies franchise, and Charles Gillespie of The Wilds. Both have demonstrated strong vocal talents, a key requirement for the musical nature of the film. Scottish actor Gilly Jones was also reportedly called to audition.
Musical Adaptation and Production Timeline
The live-action Tangled is helmed by director Michael Gracey, famed for his work on The Greatest Showman. Staying true to the spirit of the original 2010 animated hit, the new film will feature elaborate musical sequences.
Filming is slated to begin in the United Kingdom in June 2026. However, insiders indicate that the production schedule could shift depending on how quickly casting is finalized and the leads receive official approval.
