Ramin Djawadi exits 'Supergirl' project: DC film's score to be composed by Junkie XL.
Ramin Djawadi, renowned for his iconic soundtrack for the acclaimed series "Game of Thrones" and his contributions to Marvel's "Iron Man," has exited the upcoming DC Studios film "Supergirl," with official studio sources confirming the change. He has been replaced by Tom Holkenborg, popularly known as Junkie XL, who will now compose the film's score.
Djawadi’s departure from "Supergirl" comes without publicly disclosed reasons. His replacement, Junkie XL, is no stranger to the DC universe, having previously scored Zack Snyder's "Justice League." This marks the second instance in the revamped DC cinematic universe where a composer has been swapped late in production, reflecting ongoing adjustments to the franchise's creative direction. Similar changes occurred with the "Superman" reboot, where David Fleming took over from the initially announced John Murphy.
"Supergirl" is directed by Craig Gillespie and will showcase Kara Zor-El’s first solo adventure within the new DC universe. The storyline follows the heroine as she embarks on an interstellar quest for justice and vengeance after a brutal attack from an unexpected adversary. During her journey, she teams up with an unlikely ally, transforming the narrative into a cosmic fantasy infused with emotional depth.
Milly Alcock, known for her role in "House of the Dragon," stars as Supergirl, bringing fresh talent to the character. The film is set to premiere worldwide on June 26, 2026. Its release date is particularly notable, as it follows potential industry shifts such as Warner Bros.’ possible sale or restructuring, adding layers of complexity to the project’s context.
The recent change in composer highlights DC Studios’ ongoing efforts to refine the identity of its emerging cinematic universe, aiming to craft a unique musical and visual style that will define its future films.
