(Thomas Jane will appear in the series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Thomas Jane, star of The Punisher, joins the iconic sci-fi saga.
In the upcoming fifth and final season of the Paramount+ hit series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, fans will be treated to the return of two beloved characters from the Star Trek universe. Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy and Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, staples from the original series, will make a special appearance.
Their roles will be featured in the finale episode, with filming already wrapped up.
Who Takes on These Legendary Roles?
The esteemed role of Dr. McCoy is now in the hands of Thomas Jane, widely recognized for his performance in The Punisher and various other TV projects. Meanwhile, Kai Murakami has been cast as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu.
Originally, Dr. McCoy was portrayed by DeForest Kelley and Sulu by George Takei during the original 1966–1969 series. In subsequent Star Trek films featuring reimagined versions of these characters, the roles were taken on by Karl Urban and John Cho, respectively.
Series Renewal and Studio Updates
Paramount+ confirmed the renewal of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a fifth season set to premiere in June 2025. This will mark the show’s concluding season, comprising six episodes. The announcement came prior to the third season’s debut in July.
What to Expect Moving Forward
The release date for season four remains under wraps. However, it is known that the USS Enterprise crew, led by Captain Christopher Pike (portrayed by Anson Mount), will continue their journey, encountering new planets and confronting profound emotional trials.
The series will continue to be guided by showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers.
