Musician Brian King Joseph, known for his appearance on America’s Got Talent, has initiated legal action against actor and rapper Will Smith and his management company, Treyball Studios. The lawsuit accuses them of sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and fostering a hostile work environment, according to documents obtained by Variety.
Details of the Lawsuit: Who is Involved?
Violinist Brian King Joseph, the plaintiff, claims that during his professional engagement with Smith, he experienced undue pressure and unwanted sexual advances from the star. The defendants named in the case include Will Smith and his management firm, Treyball Studios.
Beginning of Collaboration and the 2025 Tour
The legal papers reveal that Joseph was hired in November 2024 to perform in San Diego. Subsequently, he was invited to join the spring 2025 concert tour titled Based on a True Story. According to Joseph, the alleged harassment commenced during this tour, with Smith exhibiting what Joseph describes as “predatory behavior” and making remarks about a “special connection” exclusive to him.
Incident in Las Vegas
A pivotal event cited in the lawsuit took place in March 2025 in Las Vegas. Joseph reported that after his hotel room key went missing and then reappeared, he found evidence that someone had entered his room without permission. The room contained items such as wet wipes, a prescription bottle for medication related to HIV treatment issued to another individual, and a note stating:
“Brian, I’ll be back by 5:30 at the latest, just us,” signed with a heart and the name “Stone F.”
Joseph interpreted these findings as a sexual threat and a serious invasion of his privacy.
Aftermath and Termination
Following the incident, Joseph contacted hotel security, informed Smith’s team, and filed a police report. However, the lawsuit alleges that within days, Smith’s manager “shamed” Joseph over the matter and subsequently terminated his contract. Joseph claims he was made to feel that the incident was either exaggerated or fabricated, adding to the emotional strain.
Claims and Compensation Sought
Joseph states the experience caused him significant psychological distress, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), alongside financial damages stemming from job loss. The lawsuit demands compensation for sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and workplace harassment, with the exact damages to be decided by a jury.
