Josh Holloway revealed how he could have played Gambit in X-Men.
Josh Holloway, renowned for his role in the acclaimed series *Lost*, recently opened up about a significant casting blunder in the world of superhero movies. He shared intriguing details about a missed opportunity that could have propelled his career into major blockbuster territory.
According to Holloway, he was initially cast to play the iconic Marvel character Remy LeBeau, better known as *Gambit*, in the 2009 film *X-Men Origins: Wolverine*. He recounted how he secured the role during early rehearsals. "Gambit was originally my part," Holloway revealed during a fan event. "I practiced scenes with Hugh Jackman, and I was told I had the role. They said, ‘That’s it, you’re our guy! See you on set.’" It seemed like a promising step forward in his acting career.
However, the excitement was short-lived. Later that same day, Holloway received an unexpected call from studio executives. They informed him that, after further consideration, the studio decided they needed someone "about ten years younger" for the role. As a result, the part was ultimately given to Taylor Kitsch.
This decision had a lasting impact on Holloway's career trajectory. Ironically, he had already prepared for Gambit's character by practicing card tricks—a signature trait of the mutant. While he expressed curiosity about whether Kitsch might reprise the role in future projects, he admitted that the likelihood was slim.
The casting switch not only altered Holloway’s personal career path but also marked *X-Men Origins: Wolverine* as one of the least successful entries in the X-Men film series. Despite the missed opportunity, Holloway remains reflective about the incident, acknowledging how such decisions can dramatically influence an actor’s journey in Hollywood.
