Renowned actor, director, and producer faces a multimillion-dollar lawsuit for alleged misconduct.
Tyler Perry, the celebrated American actor, director, and producer, is currently embroiled in a significant legal controversy. Actor Mario Rodriguez, who appeared in the 2016 film Boo! A Madea Halloween, has filed a lawsuit accusing Perry of sexual harassment and inflicting serious emotional distress.
The legal complaint was submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court, where Rodriguez alleges that Perry subjected him to repeated unwanted sexual advances over several years at his Los Angeles residence. The plaintiff asserts that this behavior was systematic and invasive.
Central to the case is an incident from 2018, during which Rodriguez claims Perry forcibly hugged him and inappropriately grabbed his genitals without consent. These actions, according to Rodriguez, led to significant psychological trauma and lasting emotional damage.
Rodriguez, who played the minor role of "Fraternity Guy #10" in Boo! A Madea Halloween, accuses Perry of intentional infliction of emotional distress and abusing his powerful status as a prominent producer and director.
The lawsuit also implicates the film’s distributor, Lionsgate, alleging the company failed to address Perry’s alleged misconduct or protect its actors. Rodriguez is pursuing damages totaling at least $77 million.
According to the complaint, all direct contact between Rodriguez and Perry ended in 2019, although Perry is said to have made sporadic attempts to reach out afterward. Rodriguez decided to pursue legal action after learning about a similar lawsuit filed by Derek Dixon, another former collaborator who accused Perry of sexual harassment.
As of now, Tyler Perry’s representatives have not issued any official statements in response to these new allegations.
